Scene 7: Interrogating Trina

Trina Echolls looks good even when she's being interrogated. The flourescent lights don't do anyone any favors, but she manages to look fresh and pulled together in spite of them.

Booth notes this both as a man (pretty girl!) and investigator (she's being interrogated - why does she look so relaxed?). He watches her for a long moment, wanting to see if he can make her uncomfortable.

Trina shrugs (artistically, just one shoulder).

"Lynn didn't make it a habit of confiding in me. I don't claim to understand the way her brain worked."

"Fair," Booth says. "Any other information you can claim to understand that could be helpful to the investigation?"

He's fishing, but when someone refuses, politely and sweetly, to cooperate, there sometimes isn't much else to be done.

Trina laughs.

"Advice, if not information, but certainly something I claim to understand, if you're interested."

"I'll take what I can get," Booth says honestly. "This case is gonna be a doozy no matter what."

"At least you know that much," says Trina.

"Here's the thing, Agent Booth. You're in Neptune. You don't know what that means, I suggest you find out, and find out fast. Because otherwise, you're also in over your pretty little head. And not everyone here is as nice as I am."

He frowns, though he doesn't look displeased.

Logan had said much the same thing, actually.

"You gonna explain what being in Neptune means to me, or am I going to have to find out from one of those not so nice folks you're talking about?"

"Oh, Sweetie, it can't be explained. Bright boy like you, though, should be able to work it out.

"Just stay out of the River Styx. And if you go, for any reason, leave your little, um, partner was it? Leave her at home."

"Yeah," Booth says, eyebrow raised. "I'll remember that."

River Styx doesn't seem like Bones's kind of place, it's true. Or his, to tell the truth.

"I think that's all for today, Ms. Echolls. Thank you for your time."

"I'd say it was my pleasure, but it's probably a bad idea to lie to an FBI agent."

He gets another smile.

"Am I free to go?"

"Probably," he says, and he can't resist smiling back. "And yes, of course. I'll be in touch as things develop."
