OOM: The Man in the Cell

"Where did the fire start?" Booth asks as they stride through the prison toward the cell where the body of Howard Epps lies, a charred and ruined wreck.

No one's sure, the warden tells him, as Booth tries to keep Brennan away from the inmates shouting obscenities at her.

She yawns, he snarks, and she tells him that her neighbors are renovating their apartment and that one of the workmen left his radio on all night, keeping her awake.

The body's face up in the cell, and Bones kneels to look at it as the warden and Booth talk.

"This is the wrist I broke," Bones says slowly.

Booth rolls his eyes, asks why it matters.

It's a fresh break, not an old one. The body in the cell cannot be that of Howard Epps.

"He was a firefighter," Brennan says.

Epps is gone.

"I'm no longer involved in Howard's life," Caroline Epps tells them, making damn sure they know that she is very much his ex-wife.

Booth suggests protective custody, but she refuses. She thinks she's safe. Booth and Brennan both doubt that this is the case.

Still, nothing they say convinces her, and she goes home with a promise to call if she hears from Howard.

Booth tells Brennan she's not allowed out on her own, ever. She's not happy, but she understands.

He also asks Cam to increase security at the lab and suggests everyone stay at the lab.

"Whatever security you think is enough, you double it, Camille."
